Hey, I'm Pete, and I'm a kidney and pancreas transplant patient, and I need help paying for my medical bills for my surgeries, appointments, and medications. As most of you know, I've had type 1 diabetes since I was 18 years old. In 2010, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. They were able to remove my thyroids completely, but now I'm on a strict synthroid prescription for the rest of my life. Through my fight with diabetes, it caused the function of my kidneys to stop working properly. This forced me to dialysis. Fortunately, my brother Junior was able to donate one of his kidneys to me back in June of 2011. For those of you who don't know about transplants, it is not a cure, but more of a temporary solution to the underlying problem. As I've been working on my road to recovery, my doctors decided that I would need a pancreas transplant because my kidney would last longer if my diabetes was more under control. They were hoping that a better functioning pancreas would do the trick. A young kid from Brooklyn, New York died of a gun shot to the head, and his family donated his organs to save lives. I received his pancreas, and my diabetes was temporarily cured. Unfortunately, my body never fully accepted the pancreas transplant, so I was regularly in and out of the hospital until one day my body fully rejected the pancreas and the doctors had to remove it. Because of being constantly in and out of the hospital, I lost my job after 23 years of service. I was given a package that gave me insurance until May of 2013. Unfortunately, there were payments that needed to be made to keep my insurance. I was able to collect SSI that kept me afloat for a period of time. For those of you who don't know my story, a huge part of this whole struggle has been from the constant problems from my childrens' mother. Some of you know the situation, and for those of you who don't, I don't want to bad-mouth her. I will say that even though she was and is completely aware of my medical situation, she disregarded all of it and took me to court for more money. Through all of the court proceedings, they started to garnish any and all funds I had coming in. Because of this, I could not pay my medical insurance any longer, and now, I can't afford my medications I need for my kidney transplants, my thyroids, and my diabetes. Even with all of my paperwork showing my medical status, and the fact that I can't work because of my medical status, Medicare and Medicaid are giving me the run-a-round. Medicaid has finally approved me, but won't activate my insurance until July of 2013 because of technicalities. I was supposed to go back on the transplant list for another pancreas transplant in March of 2013, but because of the fact that I don't have insurance, I can't get another transplant until July 2013. I need help getting my medicines, and I'm asking people to donate who can afford to. I don't want to take anything from those who can't afford to. Those of you who know me, know that I never ask for help for anything, but it's come to the point where I'm in a deep struggle mentally and physically to regain my health. For those of you who can help donate financially, please do. For those of you who can't afford to, please say a prayer for me.

Love,
Pete
