Matthew is 7 boy who lives in Murrieta, Ca. He and his sister are both autistic although Matthew is severe. Matthew was born in Yokosuka Japan in 2006; both mom and dad were active Navy and we fell in love with the little guy from the moment we saw his face. Eventually, we brought Matthew back to the U.S. and we were excited to add another baby into our lives. We wanted to have a little brother or sister for Matthew. We thought if they were close in age they would be best friends and grow with each other. Unfortunately just before my daughter Jacqueline was born we found out Matthew had autism. He was only 13 months old. As our daughter grew she too would be diagnosed with at risk for Autism. Unfortunately, her diagnosis would soon be permanent. Their parents have done everything possible to help both children but unfortunately Matthew is more severe than Jacqueline and it is becoming an everyday struggle for his family, Matthew needs a service dog to help him be at ease with the struggles that come with his diagnosis.

Matthew is currently in a moderate to severe classroom, and has limited speech which makes it had to communicate his wants and needs. He does not have friends but his sister which is difficult enough for them because they are both autistic and both have difficulty with socialization. His family has a hard time taking Matthew out to the community because he has severe meltdowns and at time runs aimless crashing into people. His family continues to take Matthew out but it is becoming more difficult each day. Our only option at this point is attaining a service dog to help ease Matthew's and anxiety and frustrations. We have difficulty attaining Matthew attention because he constantly in his own world. Matthew has limitation in speech and understanding which has become dangerous in situations such as Matthew running off and loosing him. Matthew does not know how to answer simple questions loosing him would be dangerous because he does not understand danger; he has no fear.

Matthews service dog will prevent him from darting away through tether training. It will help Matthew stay put, and ease his anxiety during outings, alert training will help his dog interrupt matthew when his family tells as he may be stereotyping. Matthews ticks and stereotypical behaviors keeping Matthew more present is the now and less in his own world, deep pressure therapy which the dog will conduct as he recognizes matthew having meltdowns; this will help Matthew overcome his meltdowns much quicker, and initial search training will help retrieve Matthew when he become lost or runs away.
