Hi! My name is Joan. I was born and raised in downtown Vancouver. I came to boxing a little later in life, but I've fallen hard for the sport. After winning my first two (unofficial) fights in a chess boxing tournament, I'm working hard to raise money for the Eastside Boxing Club and train to fight in the Eastside Rumble—and beyond.
Â
A little about me: I have a degree in electrical engineering from UBC, and while I had fun working in industry on several different projects, I eventually quit my desk job to study fine art. After teaching myself to draw and paint, I got married and started working as a barista part time to pay the bills. Now, I'm going back to UBC for a secondary school teaching degree, and spending most of my free time boxing.Â
Â
Through boxing I've found an incredible sense of community. Boxers are some of the kindest and most supportive people I've met. Total strangers are happy to work with you and become friends over fist bumps and jump ropes. I deeply value the guidance shared by more mature fighters, and the trust put in me by beginners. Boxing is truly humbling, and I want to become the best fighter I can be, and help others realize their potential too.
Â
Help me raise funds for Eastside! They're a non-profit gym that welcomed me with open arms. The funds will help support coaches and equipment buys, and most importantly give youth the opportunity to share in the joy of boxing, when they otherwise wouldn't be able.
Â
After training hard and reaching my fundraising goals, I'll have a shot at getting a fight on June 7. Leave your email when you donate to receive weekly updates on my fight camp progress.Â

Hey Vancouver,
It's that time of year again... Eastside Rumble 2026!
Eastside Rumble 2026 will provide much needed funds to support Eastside Boxing Club.
Rumble fuels:
-
improved free programs and coaching for our youth
-
dedicated welfare staffing and individual and group support
-
the return of our Under 13 Buddy Program
-
increased support for our fighter team, and greater access and opportunity for young athletes — many from our youth program — who otherwise wouldn’t have the means to participate in the sport
