Jenn and Bob Blunt hasn't added a story.
In the months leading up to the Olympics and Paralympics our collective attention will shift to athletes heading off to represent Canada at the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, France.
But NOW is the most crucial part of the journey for Canadian rowers preparing for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Our athletes need your support TODAY!
ROWING FOR CANADA IS A FULL-TIME COMMITMENT
Canada’s top rowers have migrated from communities across the country, to train at the National Training Centre in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island (British Columbia).
Athletes come to immerse themselves in an optimal training environment; a climate suited to year-round, on-water training. A place where they are surrounded by Canada’s top competitive rowers, coaches, sport scientists, therapists, nutritionists, and support staff. Like-minded individuals striving for excellence, pulling together as a team, and propelling one another to new personal bests.
They’ve put careers on hold to train full-time in the hopes of making the Olympic Rowing Team and for the dream of making us all proud at the Paris 2024 Games.
EAT, TRAIN, SLEEP
National Team rowers train 4 to 6+ hours a day, 6 days a week. They consume 6,000 to 10,000 calories per day. The same amount as a typical family of four!
Good nutrition is just as important to athletes’ success as their training regime. Properly fuelling their bodies costs each rower upwards of $1,000 per month, and inflation is pushing that cost skyward.
Most National Team athletes are fortunate to receive some government funding, known as “carding,” to cover their basic needs but your donation is especially important and will directly help athletes fill their pantry and fridge with the quality and quantity of nutritious food they require.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Working in close partnership with our Athlete Council, we are looking to raise funds to supplement the immediate needs of the athletes based at the National Training Centre.
Every dollar donated will go directly to fuelling the National Team in one of two ways:
The Breakfast Program
Every morning between practices our athletes head to a nearby restaurant to enjoy a nutritious breakfast together with teammates. The athletes cherish the nutrition as well as the bonds that are created over these shared meals.
Initiated through the generosity of a London (Ontario) community philanthropist, The Breakfast Program has always relied on the generosity of donors and our community.
The program currently costs an average of $17 a day or about $5,000 a year per athlete.
As the year draws to a close, and in the face of increased food and dining costs, your help is needed now more than ever, to sustain the breakfast program in 2023.
The Grocery Card Program
This program provides cards in $100 increments for athletes to purchase groceries. Our hope is that the generosity of the community will enable us to provide up to $500 per month in grocery cards for each athlete.
NO CONTRIBUTION IS TOO SMALL
Every dollar helps! Whether that be one breakfast for an athlete (@$17), a week's worth of breakfasts for one athlete (@$100), a breakfast for the entire team (@$750), or more!
All donations receive a charitable receipt for the maximum allowable amount. All donors of more than $200 will receive an invitation to join "The Breakfast Club" so don't forget to include your cell phone number (or the number of the person you're gifting this experience to) when you donate!
For more information, or to arrange to have your contribution invoiced to your business, school or club, or to arrange monthly or quarterly instalments, please email RCA's Donor Support Team at hello@rowingcanada.org.
______
