Reading across Canada
Starting on Monday, November
14th, 2022 until Friday, November 25th, 2022, the
students at Skwo:wech Elementary School will start a virtual,
cross-Canada road trip via an innovative program from Mind Growth
Education to complete their reading challenge.
Their daily reading sessions will
take them on a storybook adventure across this great country,
building more reading skills while exposing them to all sorts of fun
and educational facts about Canada. In addition, the One Tree
Planted Non-profit organization will plant a tree for every 25% of
the reading challenge a class completes along their reading
adventure route. There’s no extra work or cost for the
student/families — Just make sure you keep reading! #greatthingshappenwhenyouread
Will they be able to complete the challenge by November 25th, 2022? Stay tuned to find out!
Prizes
There will be individual reading
prizes, and the division with the most reading minutes will win a
class prize!
Please note: Please be
honest with the amount of the reading minutes you log in. Any odd or
outrageous daily entries will be flagged and/or questioned which
might result in disqualification.
How will the funds be used?
85% of the net funds raised by this Read-A-Thon will be put towards funding a large order of new books for our school Library. The remaining 15% goes towards Mind Growth Education to help cover costs such as subscription cost, administrative fee + the Paypal or Stripe payment processing fees and transaction costs.

At Skwo:wech we will work together as a school community to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes that will foster a positive school community of socially and emotionally connected learners. We will develop common language to support our students’ growth and self-awareness in relation to their emotions and also support them in the development of skills to manage their emotions constructively.
