Dear Friends of Street Angels,
As we enter the holiday season, the Street Angels are continually blessed and warmed by your gracious gifts that help us bring hope to those who need it most. Together, we are making a real and immediate impact on lives. It could be through a warm meal and dry socks. Or access to shelter and a path to permanent housing. Whatever form it takes, the work of the Street Angels volunteer team gives Milwaukee’s homeless population a reason to believe that something better can be ahead.
Providing that hope requires us to be out near our friends, we need your help again to make our service more reliable this winter. If you follow us on Facebook (please do!), you’ll know that our Street Angels bus … we call her “Hope” … is the tool that is most needed for the Street Angels outreach. Unfortunately, the bus that’s served us so well is proving increasingly unreliable and costly to maintain.
Can you make an investment in us? This year for Giving Tuesday, we are asking for donations to assist us in in obtaining a safe and reliable outreach bus. Over the course of three nights a week we make nearly 100 stops, providing food and basic services. We can’t do this when our vehicle is on the sidelines for repairs. A “new to us” bus would also ensure the safety of our outreach team and volunteers. We have done our research and found the type of vehicle we are in need of , in used but good condition, is going to run $30,000-$35,000.
Our volunteers and donors continually amaze those around us with the powerful ways in which you come together for the cause. Let’s do it again! Collectively between sponsorships & community support, we believe we can meet this goal and continue to change lives. We strive to form a relationship with each friend we meet & offer guidance to a brighter future by connecting them with programs that provide housing assistance and case management to meet their needs. We have been blessed this year to witness many friends gain housing and become connected to invaluable services initiated by our outreach. Often it takes just someone to care.
The outreach bus is key to making these connections, any contribution you can make this Holiday season would be greatly appreciated. It is a gift that will keep on giving. Thank you for your consideration and may your Holiday Season be blessed with love & joy!
