Cambridge Volunteers (formerly Cambridge Volunteer Clearinghouse) strengthens civic life by championing local volunteer opportunities and supporting an effective and inclusive volunteer corps.

ADDRESSING TODAY'S VOLUNTEERISM CHALLENGES 

The COVID pandemic changed volunteerism. Our 2023 citywide survey of volunteer-dependent agencies revealed that while some have adapted to new volunteer expectations -- in particular, flexible scheduling and remote options -- others cannot. Many human services programs still need regular, in-person volunteer commitments. The fallout: program staff may be further stretched to cover former volunteer roles; program capacity or quality may be diminishing; agency income may be threatened. Cambridge Volunteers is working to understand these trends locally, and to help agencies fill their volunteer ranks.
