What a gift it is to partner with International China Concern this year at the Middle Campus! Our students have much to learn from the experiences of people with disabilities who live in China and are cared for through the faithful work of ICC. They also have a wonderful opportunity to turn their attention away from the relative comforts of our existence here in Canada and be the hands and feet of Jesus, taking part in His story of restoration and healing. Please encourage your child to learn about ICC, and to consider the opportunity and gift of giving. Let’s show our care for ICC and partner with our God who brings miraculous hope!

Who is International China Concern?

Since 1993, International China Concern has been reaching out to China’s most vulnerable children. Children with disabilities in China face stigma, systemic prejudice (often unable to attend school), isolation and many live in extreme poverty. Families caring for a child with a disability live under tremendous pressure that can lead them to the desperate and painful decision to abandon their child.

Once a child is abandoned, care by China’s institutional welfare centres often results in neglect, malnutrition, and deterioration, causing irreparable harm. Richmond Christian School is a proud partner of International China Concern (ICC). ICC provides support both to families caring for a child with a disability in their own home and for children who have been abandoned.

Your child is going to be taking part in a special event called lCC Week during the weeks of May 5-15.

This year, join us as we actively participate in bringing God’s miraculous hope to the world by supporting the meaningful work of ICC.

Each class at RCS Middle has an online fundraising page. We’re asking you, as parents, along with your child to email friends and family to ask them to sponsor your child as they raise funds. Please share with them the link that has been provided by your child’s classroom teacher.

The donations received will enable ICC to provide the necessary care, nutrition and services that enable families to care for their child. It will also enable the children, who have experienced abandonment, to receive the kind of care that will give them the opportunity to grow in their God-given potential.

STORY OF RUIJIN

Ruijin is a joyful eight-year-old with congenital heart disease, cerebral palsy and hemangioma. ICC had the honour of welcoming him into our care in April 2024. When he first arrived, Ruijin was thin and weak, his high muscle tone severely limited his range of motion, and he was unable to walk independently.

Our team provided him with a customized wheelchair. They also began regular physical therapy and special education sessions. Now, he can walk short distances independently! Because of you, Ruijin has the tools he needs to thrive.
