A pristine rainforest… Maiombe

an amazing biodiversity rich environment where chimpanzees, gorillas, various species are living, within an extremely diverse and unique flora. 
This combination makes poachers and the illegal wildlife traffickers present in the area, they poach all animals and the wilderness, making the forest in a danger of losing life. It is beyond tragic.

In 2017, Wild at Life decided to put a stop to this and started to work in the region as the only international NGO. We have started rescuing victims of poachers and started empowering rangers to better fight them in the forest. This mission is dangerous and we are committed to stop the entire poaching. Since we are in the area, the rate of the abuse has gone tremendously down but we are not done yet, as it is a daily struggle to continue the mission.

we have name Angola Mission as Mission Caita, after Caita who we rescued from the poachers, she was in a terrible condition and whatever we did, we could not save her life. She had suffer extensively for weeks in the hands of the perpetrators.

Since then we have rescued countless of chimpanzees and moustached guenons (which the locals are eating!) and we have extended our base camp for caring for them. 

in one of our actions, we have rescued many orphans trapped in houses same day: Zeze (in the pic: eye cut with machete and a bullet lodge in the testicle), Zizi, baby Jacka and many more. 
As all babies needs special care and a big freedom we have signed a partnership with Jane Goddall Tchimpunga Congo so we could bring the ones in bad condition to them. To this day we have relocated 6, amongst Zeze, Rickita, Joana, Tina…

Then borders closed due to Covid and we had to care for the arrivals at our base camp sanctuary. We have upgraded the enclosures and went the extra mile to care for them.

we are extremely low in finances and we keep taking in the new victims. In the meantime the borders have opened and we need to bring the fragile ones to Tchimpunga for treatment.
