As you all know, Paws Unite People has taken on the sole responsibility for the KSAR staff members and families who have been evacuated, and those still in Afghanistan that are not allowed to work or go to school under Taliban law.
We have just taken on the 58 people from Operation Magic Carpet that were left without any support in Pakistan. We need to sort out their documentation problems asap. They need that fixed so they can exit the country. This has been a huge undertaking for our tiny rescue, but these people are worth the effort.
We want to stress that some staff from both orgs left their homes when they evacuated and can not go back to them because it is too dangerous or new people have moved in.
For obvious security reasons, we cannot disclose much information publicly about what documentation is needed, but the Magic Carpet group is about $170,000 to fix.
The remaining part of the goal is for the few members from KSAR group we have still in Afghanistan in safe houses.
Unfortunately there is a backup with US immigration and refugee processing for our ksar group, so it is taking longer for processing. We have a few months to go with them.
We are solely responsible for their support until the ksar cases are done.
We cannot start cases for Operation Magic Carpet group until documentation is fixed, so we have no timeliness for them yet.
A number of male members of the staff are still working in Kabul. It is important to note that since the regime change happened in Afghanistan, organizations still operating in the country are now shifting strategies to working with the Taliban government. They are adapting to the emerging political and economic situation as the country continues to evolve. Please remember female staff members are not able to work and need help, and religious/ethnic minority groups are being targeted in attacks. It is not safe for those who have fled the country.
We are committed to continue to work on the welfare of the 230 staffers and families who should have left the country at the end of August.
We will not abandon them. They are our friends and rescue colleagues.
This fundraiser covers travel costs to 3rd country and all legal fees.
