Dachshund Rescue South Florida hasn't added a story.
The call came from the shelter mid afternoon....a beautiful doxie boy had just been dropped off for euthanasia by his family. The photos showed a handsome boy, not evidently sick, no injuries visible, his size told us that there didn't seem to be any obvious health issue going on. What had this boy been surrendered for to be put down?
Coughing. He had been brought to the shelter and abandoned alone to be euthanized for coughing. He had a cough, so let's kill him.
Nope, not on our watch.
Someone needed to go to Miami to get him and President Pam and our treasurer were having some lunch after seeing Oprah in Ft. Lauderdale so they paid the bill and hit the road to get this handsome, coughing boy.
They waited in the lobby for just a few minutes (the rescue office is darn good...) and looked up to see this chunker of a little man on shorty short legs going as fast as his leash would let him to get the heck out of that building. They scooped him up and were on their way north to LeadER and in honor of getting to see Oprah, our new member of our Class of 2020 started his new life over as Stedman.
Stedman coughed his way back north and they arrived at LeadER and Dr. Merrin and Sr. Vet Tech Chris got him right to the back and checked out. There is some heart stuff going on, a murmur and some other things. Stedman weighed in at 21 lbs (we may hook him up with some Weight Watchers with Oprah), and based on the sound of his lungs, it was decided that Stedman needed some oxygen until Dr. Schroeder (vet cardiologist) can check him out this coming week.
It is not our job to waste one thought for those people who brought Stedman to the shelter to be put down. That is between them and the universe. Our job is to get Stedman well so that he can find a family that is 1,000 times better than the one that he had. To fulfill our promise to him, we ask your help with a donation of any size so that we can continue to be the safety net these little ones need when there is nobody else to come for them but us. As always we thank you for believing in us and our work and making doxie dreams of 2nd chances come true!
