My boy Yoshi has been through so much in such short time. Two years ago he had an emergency back surgery. In November last year he had yet another surgery on his neck. Some dachshunds suffer from something called IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease). Yoshi happened to be one of them and this needed to be addressed.

Unfortunately, here we are again. I rushed Yoshi to the hospital last Saturday, after he couldn't keep food nor water down the night before. An ultrasound showed an obstruction in his intestines just below his stomach and stones in his bladder. They had to perform emergency surgery on him to save his life. The obstruction was about a six inch linear foreign body made up of hair, fuzzballs, plastic tags, etc. It completely filled up the width of his intestinal tract so that's why he couldn't even keep the water down. He is not one to get into the trash or randomly chew a lot, but I was told this was an accumulation that got lodged over time. They also located stones in his bladder that needed to be removed. Without this, he eventually wouldn't be able to urinate because they were too big to pass. They were worried about the cut made into the bladder. The wall was so weak from where the stones had been sitting that they were concerned about the stitches holding. Still, fortunately enough both surgeries were a success and he passed the critical stage.

However, the incision on his underbelly is not healing and is now quite infected. They've cultured it, had him on antibiotics and it won't subside. They've been flushing it and changing his dressings several times a day. The next step is to try a vacuum over the wound to draw out the infection and kill the bacteria feeding the infection. We don't know if that can be done because the incision is close to his reproductive organ. The necrotic tissue will also have to be removed, so we are looking at another surgery to remove that, bring out infection and close up. Needless to say, he has another fight ahead of him.

I am always hesitant to ask for help and I try to take care of all my problems my self, but this has just been one hit after another. I am still paying off the debt from his old surgeries and the latest two have completely exhausted my finances. But even with all the issues Yoshi's prognosis is very good and I know I have to keep fighting for him. As any dog parent knows we don't just give up because it's hard. I hope that kind people out there will be able to help us get through this together. Thank you everyone in advance, your kindness will never be forgotten.
