Bowney Initiative hasn't added a story.
What would you do if, at age 12, your parents are unable to provide school materials and basic necessities? What would you do if you had no one to turn to in times of difficulties? It’s time to give hope to young girls in Ghana and Africa who may otherwise become victims of teenage pregnancy and drop out of school.
Through this campaign, we would reach 3000 girls with our mentorship program where girls would participate in a 5-day camp to build self-awareness, resilience, and confidence and thereafter be paired with mentors, financially support at least 50 brilliant girls in high school/tertiary and build five (5) Libraries in under-served communities
Why is this campaign urgent?
Currently, we have 80 girls and we are able to support just a
handful in school. Majority of girls are receiving very little
support from parents which is affecting their performance in school negatively
Last year, we built a library in Berekuso, one of the communities we work in. The Library has been impactful in the life of the children in the community. With only 20 seats, we have had over 200 school children use the library. Our hope is to expand the existing library and build five libraries in other rural communities. 99.9% of rural communities in Ghana have no access to learning resources. About Founder
Growing up, I lived with my father who was a taxi driver and my
mother, a petty trader. I had a younger brother who had autism so
the majority of the financial resources was going in to support him.
As such, there were times when I was sacked for school fees but I
was fortunate to receive support from mentors who took a genuine
interest in seeing me succeed. In a similar way, my dream is to see
girls, not only go to school but excel in their areas of interest by
giving them the necessary support. My name is Grace, the Founder and
Executive Director of Bowney Initiative. I am a MasterCard
Foundation Scholar with a Bachelor’s degree in Business
Administration from Ashesi University. I received a Dalai Lama
Fellowship in 2015, where we received our first funding of 10, 000
dollars to pilot our program for a year. Since then, we have been
supported by the generous contribution of individuals.

Sustainability Plan
Mainly, donations are going to form part of our long-term strategy.
However, we will be more innovative to expand our reach. That way, we
will not depend on early donors or our very small donor community.
Aside that, we have various designed strategies we will employ to
affect our cash-flows positively. This include:
Training our girls with vocational skills and selling products
made. Example making treasure out of trash
Funding ventures
started by our girls
Our adopt-a-girl policy would strive to link
our girls to affluent families and in-turn lift the financial burden
off our books in the long-term.
We expect to sell our mentoring
services to affluent schools. Girls from such schools will join our
mentoring procedure at a cost.
Impact and Progress Measurement
We would measure progress and impact by the number of girls we support in school, the number of girls mentored and the number of libraries built. In addition, we would share success stories of girls and their learning journey
