The Tri-Centric
Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which supports
the work and legacy of American composer and musician Anthony Braxton.
Our primary activities are preservation and dissemination of his scores,
recordings, and writings, production of performances, and pedagogy.
In the coming years we aim to increase the amount of material and
information that is available for artists, researchers, and students
of all levels who would like to learn how to perform these important works.
This year, the Tri-Centric Foundation completed the transfer of its
physical archives to the Library of Congress, these archived materials
include scores, recordings, and more which are now publicly available
to musicians, scholars, and friendly experiencers. Subsequently, the LOC published
a series of videos celebrating the transfer of Anthony Braxton’s
archive which documents a concert of Braxton’s music including
Composition No. 100, Composition No. 222, and Thunder Music, and
videos interviewing Tri-Centric staff, musicians, and the composer
himself. This year TCF also celebrated Anthony Braxton’s 80th
birthday, an occasion which was honored by Downbeat Magazine with the
composer’s induction into the DownBeat Hall of Fame and a feature on
the magazine’s cover.
This year Frog Peak Music published a new edition of the
Tri-Axium Writings volumes 1-3 ensuring the availability of the
writings of Anthony Braxton to friendly experiencers for years to
come. These editions can be found as perks of this campaign both
digitally and physically in a special slip case signed by Braxton.
Publisher Schott Music also released Anthony Braxton -
50+ Years of Creative Music, edited by Timo Hoyer and Kobe Van
Cauwenberghe, which focuses on the happenings of the Darmstadt
Ferienkurse of 2023 in which Braxton’s music was celebrated with
premieres, analyses, and thoughtful discourses on Braxton’s music.
This year has also been a productive for the online archival efforts
of TCF, as numerous compositions have been added to the TCF website
including compositions 9, 95, 98, 169, 171, 173, 174, 192, 222, 247,
265, and 341.
Over the past year, TCF has supported performances of Anthony
Braxtons music by way of providing scores and pedagogical materials to
performers. In May, International Contemporary Ensemble included
Braxton’s Falling River Music and Diamond Curtain Wall Music to
present in their concert at University of
California Irvine supported by scores provided by TCF. In
October, Braxton’s Echo Echo Mirror House Music piece, Composition No.
375, was presented in concert at Wesleyan University by TCF Archives
Manager Carl Testa and featured an updated EEMHM network device system
in tandem with a wave field synthesis array made by Testa.
TCF has also provided support for the series of
concerts and workshops at Roulette in New York City presenting
the output of Anthony Braxton and educating performers on various
systems common to Braxton’s music with the aim of welcoming players
into a rich and interconnected musical language and engendering
informed future performances. The series curated by Roulette
throughout November 2025 hosts multiple concerts of Braxton’s music
featuring performers like the International Contemporary Ensemble,
Tri-Centric Vocal Ensemble, Ursula Oppens, Adam Tendler, Cecilia
Lopez, and Darius Jones. TCF has also provided support by way of
scores and information for the performers of the Apmonia Quartet
as they prepare to present Braxton’s composition No. 17 for string
quartet in concert halls across the east and west coasts of the United
States in the spring of 2026.
Moving into the next year, the Tri-Centric Foundation will dedicate
resources raised by this initiative to the continued publishing of
Anthony Braxton’s scores which will be available on the Tri-Centric
Foundation website, including the large scale Composition No. 96, as
well as continuing to provide pedagogical support on the music of
Anthony Braxton in future performances.
This year TCF is offering some exciting new rewards for
different levels of contribution. Some of our offerings include a
signed edition of the Anthony Braxton DownBeat Hall of Fame issue, and
copies of the new edition of the Tri-Axium Writings Vols. 1-3 from
Frog Peak Music housed in a hard box set slipcover. After the Fundrazr
initiative closes, all items will be shipped. Your contribution will
go towards preserving and sharing the works of one of the most
significant American composers, making Braxton’s work accessible to
friendly experiencers for generations to come! Please donate today, no
amount is too small.
