Arkansas Times Presents:
A Monthly Luncheon Featuring Influential Writers, Reporters and Newsmakers Focused on Current Events in Arkansas
Care to hear someone who really knows what they are talking about when it comes to Arkansas LEARNS? You’re invited to have lunch then, with Baker Kurrus, Arkansas Times education columnist, attorney, and former superintendent of the Little Rock School District.
Event Details:
Date: Wednesday, Nov. 29
Time: 11:30 a.m. -
1:00 p.m.
Location: Whole Hog Café at 2725 Cantrell
Baker Kurrus, with his wealth of experience in public education, is the state’s most articulate critic of the governor's Arkansas LEARNS Act. Kurrus passionately argues that the figures don’t add up and the state is headed towards an irreversible dismantling of our public schools statewide.
This is the first in a series of monthly luncheons featuring influential Arkansas writers, reporters, and newsmakers sponsored by the Arkansas Times. Our objective is to provide you with a front-row seat to the thought processes behind the political and policy decisions that will shape the future of Arkansans for years to come.
All proceeds from this event will be dedicated to fully funding the hiring of Matt Campbell (Blue Hog Report), who recently joined the Arkansas Times as a full-time investigative reporter.
To attend this unique event, we request a tax-deductible donation of $100. Your contribution will go to fund investigative reporting at the Arkansas Times and get you some delectable Whole Hog barbecue in the restaurant's private dining room. Following his presentation, Kurrus will be available to answer your questions.
Event Schedule:
- Barbecue service starts at 11:30 a.m.
- Baker Kurrus will
commence his presentation at noon.
- The event will conclude by
1:00 p.m.
Please reserve your tickets early, as space is limited.
I can’t remember when the watchdog role of the Arkansas free press has been more crucial. With the ascendancy of tech giants like Google and Facebook, newspapers are shuttering, and reporters are facing mass layoffs. The traditional advertiser-driven model of news publishing is under strain. We are embarking on a journey to redefine a new, sustainable business model that ensures accountability for the most powerful interests in our state.
We sincerely hope to welcome you on Wednesday, Nov. 29 to be a part of this essential dialogue and to contribute to the future of journalism in Arkansas.
Warm regards,
Alan Leveritt
