Never too old to get punched in the face for a great cause!

At the age of 65 I decided it was time to learn to box. The East Side Boxing Club where I train is a remarkable resource in the community. I am participating in a fundraiser through the Club for programs that support the Downtown East Side.

In April I will be in a 3-round fight as part of a large boxing card and I want your support!

When: Saturday, April 18th
Where: Croatian Cultural Centre, 3250 Commercial Drive, Vancouver
Time: 2:00 pm until late

Here's some additional info you need to understand:

1. If I get injured before the fight, or they cannot find me an appropriate opponent (not an impossibility) all funds raised remain with the fundraiser.

2. Tax receipts are only issued on amounts of $100 or more. They must be made off-line (to me) in cash or cheque. If you wish to donate less than $100 or don't care about the tax receipt, make your donation  directly on this page.

A huge thank you goes out to the amazing distillery, Resurrection Spirits, under whose banner I am fighting.

I look forward to seeing you April 18th.

In the mean time, Please Give Big - I'm Old!

Love, Ted

Beer Wars is an annual collaborative fundraiser between Vancouver’s Beer and Boxing communities. Participants from over a dozen local craft breweries take part in an intensive three month training regime to prepare themselves for a sold out boxing card at participating venues.

Funds raised from BeerWars benefits local boxing gym – Eastside Boxing Club located in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. This community based non-profit aims to better its community through boxing programs and community building.

The dollars raised through Beer Wars, allows Eastside Boxing Club to serve the community of the Downtown Eastside. Through programs like:

  • the youth afterschool boxing program,
  • making moves: free boxing program for mothers living in the Downtown Eastside,
  • free self-defence classes for women fem identified and members of the LGBTQTT2S+
  • frontline fight club - free boxing training for front line workers dealing with the opioid crisis

Who can enter? Anyone who works at a brewery or in the beer industry (events, bloggers, distribution, suppliers, tours etc) can join. Everyone needs to be sponsored by a brewery (if you work in the industry however not for a brewery, we can help find one to sponsor you).

In order to participate in Beer Wars, you must be sponsored by a brewery, and that brewery must donate 50L of product (cans preferred).

You must also raise a minimum $500 in donations in order to participate. Some breweries would like to cover the fundraiser goal of contenders in full. If this is the case, a $500 tax receipt will be provided to the brewery.

2020 registration fees are $150. This includes your Boxing BC membership fees. It does NOT include your medical fees.  You are responsible for supplying your own equipment (more details in the Orientation Guide).

Orientation is on January 18th, from 2pm to 10pm.  Please make a point to attend as we’ll be providing you with important details and answering any questions you may have; as well as helping you set up your fundrazr!

Orientation is at Eastside Boxing, 238 Keefer Street.
