Kittens Tara and Jax are sister and brother who were born at the end of June 2013 in the Xindian/Bitan area of Taipei City. They were found in a small alley where the neighbors have begun to chase the cats away and set traps for them to either harm them or to take them and dump them elsewhere. One of their sisters was injured and taken to hospital with a broken pelvic bone and a dislocated hip. Tara and Jax were removed by an Animals Taiwan volunteer to get them to a safer and forever home before any harm could come to them.

However, it was discovered that both Tara and Jax have contracted parvo virus. They were immediately quarantined and took them to the vet for tests and treatment. This is the first time in 9 years since Animals Taiwan was founded that the center has had a feline parvo virus case. As feline parvo virus is highly contagious and dangerous to other cats, we have had to bleach and disinfect our entire cat rescue house. As such, no volunteers are allowed into the cat house and we will not be able to take in any cats, nor will we be adopting out our cats for at least another month when we are certain the parvo virus is dead and there are no risks for contagion.

Tara and Jax were in the very early stages of feline parvo virus when treated, so we have hope they will have a full recovery. Feline parvo virus is not an easy virus to treat and their medical bills will be quite expensive.

If you are willing to help Tara and Jax by sponsoring their medical bills, you can make a donation here that will go fully towards their medical bills and all other expenses that could come up because of this. Please help these poor kittens. They really need our help and any bit that someone can give will help them, and help Animals Taiwan do everything they can for the strays of Taiwan.

Animals Taiwan consists of a group of volunteers, both expatriates and locals, who are dedicated to improving the quality of life for the island’s abandoned and mistreated animals.

Animals Taiwan believes in giving every animal the chance of a life without suffering, however small that chance may be. Animals Taiwan was originally established for the sole purpose of the rescue, rehabilitation and adoption of needy animals, but as the organization grew, we refocused our efforts on finding the solution to the root source of the stray problem. This is why we are now heavily promoting CNR (Catch-Neuter-Return), responsible pet ownership and the importance of spaying and neutering.

Animals Taiwan was established in 2004 and is now a registered non-profit organization devoted to the rescue, recovery, care, training and adoption of seriously ill and injured stray dogs and cats in Taiwan. To date, we have helped over 500 animals, many of which were given little chance of survival upon initial veterinary assessment. Many of these animals also show signs of abuse, deliberate neglect, serious disease and injuries caused from traps and traffic accidents.

Our rescue center, located in Beitou, Taipei, is currently caring for over 70 healthy cats and dogs, all waiting for loving homes. We have 6 staff and over 500 volunteers who hold regular fundraising and adoption events, as well as a very successful animal sponsorship program and an education outreach program.
