Chamber Encounters, Inc. hasn't added a story.
Have you heard of the Baltimore Bows? Currently the only program of its kind in existence, we strive to bring the life changing power of music to the Jewish Community of Baltimore, and eventually other communities as well, which up until now had extremely limited (read: nada) access to quality music training due to religious and financial restrictions. While our ideals and goals are far reaching - we believe that music changes lives - our current needs are simple and practical: we simply could not exist without the support of people like YOU! We operate on a day-to-day shoestring budget; every single penny goes towards giving these kids the music education that they deserve.
We are a 501(c)3 non-profit, and for this upcoming school year, due to popular demand we are starting an additional beginner class! We are in need of new instruments for these beginner students, and also larger instrument sizes for our current students who are growing up and getting bigger. We need your help to continue providing them with free instrument loans and affordable, high quality music education! Thank you for your donations!
Ideally, we would need to buy 8 violins, 5 violas, and 5
cellos, for a total of 18 new instruments for the program:
Each violin costs $100
Each viola costs $130
Each cello costs $450
We would like to provide at least 2 general scholarships and 6 yearly private lesson scholarships:
Yearly Baltimore Bows Tuition Scholarship
$750
Yearly Private Lesson Scholarship $525
(Instruments and scholarships can be dedicated in honor or memory of a specific person. If you wish to do so, please write to thebaltimorebows@gmail.com after making your donation.)
Our Story:
Founded in 2014 by violinist Yonatan Grinberg, his cellist wife Andrea, and our dear friend Sarah Lowenstein teaching viola, the Baltimore Bows began introducing children to classical music with the support of the Baltimore Talent Education Center (BTEC). It was an instant success, and our desire to continue when BTEC closed its doors in fall 2015 led us to creating our non-profit Chamber Encounters, Inc., under which the Baltimore Bows now operates. We saw tremendous growth and development in our students the first year of the program and wanted to continue providing them the space and opportunity to continue their journeys into the world of music. We hope to continue to serve generations of young musicians for many years.
The success of the program has been unprecedented: our enrollment is bursting so much that we now have to turn students away because of lack of space, our concerts are routinely packed wall-to-wall with audience members. We have been featured in Mishpacha Magazine, the Jewish Times, the Where What When, and on NPR. We are constantly hiring new teachers and recruiting volunteers to answer the high demand for more from the Baltimore Bows. Our orchestra is truly the result of hard work, sweat, and dedication - currently our directors do not get paid for the time they put into the program, and our teachers are hugely overqualified for the hourly rate we able to offer. We hope that one day, with your help, this will change.
Baltimore Bows has grown to include children from both Northwest Baltimore City and Baltimore County, in Pikesville and Mt. Washington, as well as Owings Mills. We have students in our program that attend almost every single Jewish school in the area, along with public schools and homeschoolers. The lack of access to musical education in the community where Baltimore Bows is rooted explains, in part, the tremendous success of the program to date. We are the only orchestral education program that serves the needs of the Orthodox Jewish Community. This community is attracted to the program because they cannot easily participate in other music programs due to income, location, and other religious needs such as not driving or playing musical instruments on Shabbat and Jewish holidays.
Baltimore Bows meets twice weekly in the late afternoons during the school year and teaches violin, viola and cello in chamber groups as well as full string orchstra. In addition to learning their respective instruments in a small group setting, children also receive one-on-one lessons with professional musicians. These children are learning the importance of teamwork, goal-setting and perseverance, all while building their confidence and intellect. We provide the children with instruments, materials and instruction. All of our teachers have advanced music degrees and many years of teaching experience.
Our program will be growing by 50% this year and with that growth comes a need for new instruments. We need instruments for new students joining the program and we need to replace some of our already existing instruments. We could not do what we do without the amazing and generous support and encouragement of our community both near and far. Please give what you can to these kids and become a part of the Baltimore Bows family! Every penny that you contribute will go toward the children in the Baltimore Bows program. If we exceed our goal for instruments, all additional money will go toward scholarships for children whom which even our affordable tuition is not possible.
All donations are 100% tax deductible.
