April Is Heartworm Awareness Month. Each year Rural Dog Rescue spends approximately $50,000 in treating heartworm positive dogs. These dogs are almost always hounds from the rural south who have spent their whole life without proper vet care.

Rural Dog Rescue is dedicated to saving the lives of the Underdogs.  Who are the Underdogs?  The Underdogs are at risk dogs in high kill economically challenged shelters.  They are the hounds, the black dogs, the seniors, the handicapped and the sick.  Almost 75% of the dogs we rescue from the east coast of North Carolina are heartworm positive.  They are also almost always our hounds who have suffered from years of neglect and no preventatives.

Rural Dog Rescue spends approximately $50,000 a year treating heartworm positive dogs.  Each dogs care and recovery costs approximately $1000.

April is heartworm awareness month.  Our goal is to raise $10,000 for our Heartworm Fund.  So far this year we have already treated 19 dogs for heartworms.  Please help us replenish our funds so we can continue to save the lives of dogs who are heartworm positive.  No dog should die because he's heartworm positive.
