Richard Morrisett, a professor at the UT College of Pharmacy, plead guilty last year to two charges of domestic violence against his then-girlfriend. He subsequently failed to alert UT, who then carried out an investigation into Morrisett. UT determined that Morrisett's off-campus behavior somehow had no effect on his professional work as a teacher, despite UT having a clear no-tolerance policy on domestic abuse.

The Revolutionary Student Front took up the task of organizing a rally to ramp up public pressure on Morrisett and the administration and set the date for Tuesday, February 13th. Upon arrival at the College of Pharmacy, the protesters were met with dozens of UTPD, State Troopers, and a K-9 unit in an attempt to intimidate the protestors. Shortly after chanting began, UTPD entered the crowd and arrested one of the protesters without clearly stating a reason for this arrest or identifying themselves. Up until this point, the protest had been extremely tame, but the cops, in the interest of protecting the university and abusers, decided to escalate the situation by arresting a protester who was peacefully standing and chanting against domestic abusers on campus.

This protester posed no threat to UTPD or any others at the protest. They are being hit (as is typical of Austin police) with fake charges and are guilty only of speaking out against Richard Morrisett and a university system which protects abusers and places survivors at risk. This comrade needs our support right now.
