AutoDuco - VTI Apprenticships hasn't added a story.
What is AutoDuco?
AutoDuco is a non-profit automotive maintenance and repair shop where we will train the next generation of automotive technicians. AutoDuco's Apprenticeship program give 14 - 19 year old students real world experience at the same time while they earn their high school diploma. AutoDuco will harken back to a time in America when people took pride in their work and got their hands dirty. Our program will offer real hands on work experiences so when they complete our program they will be ready to start their career as a professional technician!
How will we help young people?
AutoDuco will employ professional automotive technicians who will work with four 14-19 year old students everyday. The professional technician will instruct the school age Apprentices on the intricacies of automotive maintenance and repair. Most Career and Technoloy programs are theory based and do very little one on one or two on one hands on training. AutoDuco will offer real world work experience along with the opportunity and satisfaction of helping customers to have the best experience possible when they bring their vehicle to us.
How will your money help kids?
Your money will be going directly to help us secure our first building and to hire and train our technicians and Apprentices. Your money will also go directly to helping purchase tools, tool boxes and uniforms for the Apprentices. The money donated to AutoDuco will directly provide the Apprentices with the skills and confidence they need to enter the workforce as an automotive technician with 4 years of experience and at least 4 ASE certifications. When most young people are just getting ready to enter into a training program or barely graduating high school our Apprentices will not only have their high school diploma - they will have the tools and skills needed to be a professional automotive technician ready to provide for themselves and their families!
Who are AutoDuco's founders?
Chad McCarty - Chad was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas. He and his older brother developed a strong work ethic by watching their father and mother fight through adversity and celebrate small victories. Community and family has always been at the core of Chad's being. After earning a full scholarship to play football at Texas Christian University (TCU), he continued his quest to give back to his community by majoring in Elementary Education. By the time his playing career had ended at TCU, Chad had earned 4 letters in football, spent two years as a starter on the football team and team captain, and had received his Master of Education. All of this was accomplished in less than 5 years. Chad has been in education for for 15 years, and for 9 of those years he has been a school administrator. In 2013 at the age of 33 Chad was chosen to be the head principal of the same inner-city high school he graduated from 16 years prior. From 2013 to 2017 Chad has been impacting the lives of those in his community, and inspiring the future leaders of America to make a difference in their own communities. His dream of going back home and giving back has come full circle. He still feels that there is more work to do and he is eager to accept the challenge. Along with Rogelio and James, Chad sees a great opportunity to make a positive and meaningful impact in the lives of future American workers.
James Nevels - James is a native of Fort Worth, Texas. He grew up in a modest hard working family with solid values. He started his schooling in private school where he exceled early, and later went to the local schools. At the beginning of his high school years he felt like a misfit, so he began to hang out with the wrong crowd and he was forced to get a GED. After some years of soul searching and seeing the pains firsthand in the community, he began to give back through outreach programs along with gang interventions. James studied psychology and Arts at Trinity Valley Community College, Business Finance and Nursing at University of Texas in Arlington. From 2002-2005, James served as a mentor to inner city youth. In 2010 he started a remodeling and construction company by the name of FixItPro all while working in a mentor program in the local school district. With more hours in mentoring and less in FixItPro, he had to sit the business to the side for a while. Four great children and a CDL license later he now works for FedEx and continues to help in the community where he can. Passionate about growth and surrounded with great friends like Rogelio and Chad, the fire still burns to make a difference in the world. He plans to make his past a guiding light for all that come after him.
Rogelio Ornelas - Rogelio grew up in a small town on the outskirts of the south side of San Antonio, Texas. Rogelio's father was a diesel mechanic and his stepfather was a blacksmith and a welder. He spent many hours working with them while growing up and understands the value of bloody knuckles and grease stained hands. Rogelio obtained his BA in English from the University of Texas at Arlington and followed in his mother's footsteps of being a teacher. During his 6 years in the classroom while working in disciplinary alternative schools, Rogelio obtained his Masters in Education and became a school administrator. Rogelio worked as an Assistant Principal at a two very challenging schools. The high school where Rogelio has worked for the last 7 years has a mobility rate of over 30% and teacher turnover rate of nearly 25% each year. It was this experience at the high school where his students were not receiving the kind of education they needed to be successful that inspired him to leave his position to start AutoDuco. Along with Chad and James, they decided to for. A work-based learning program to help young people make a difference in their lives, their families lives and in the lives of their customers.
