Please help the Young Thespians of Cebu in their first fully licensed Broadway musical production!


The Young Thespians of Cebu is an up and coming community theatre group made up of young Cebuano professionals who are passionate in theatre. They want to share their talents and bring top quality productions in Cebu but with very little funding available for the relatively high costs of musical licensing, they are unable to produce fully licensed productions. As a director, I have done school and community theatre productions on Guam and Hong Kong, but I have long dreamed of directing a community theatre production in my hometown of Cebu. In February 2015, I got to watch a YTC production and I saw how talented and passionate the members are. The company is full of potential but is in dire need of financial support. They sincerely want to produce top quality productions but with steep licensing and royalty fees for Broadway musicals, they are unable to do so. Thus a dream began....a dream of helping these young thespians produce a fully licensed musical under my co-direction with a dear friend Rudy Aviles. And what better way to realize my dream than to mount a production about the biggest dreamer in Biblical history, Joseph! Not just any Joseph musical but Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, two of musical theatre's most respected creators.

This campaign is to initially raise funds for the royalties and licensing for the Young Thespians of Cebu's amateur community theatre production of JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT scheduled on August 12-14, 2016, presented with arrangement by the Really Useful Group. This also happens to be the first licensed production of this musical in Cebu. And this is where you, my friends, come in. Many of you, my friends, have seen my productions or have been involved in them. I hope you can help me help these artists share this wonderful, family friendly musical with Cebuano audiences.

Cebu Theatre is full of talent with little funding and financial support. The goal for this campaign is to raise US$2,000 to cover the licensing, rental costs and costumes. The licensing agency, the Really Useful Group, has assessed basic licensing cost set at US$600 while rental of the orchestration is US$608. The balance will be allocated to mailing costs and costumes. In total the production will cost about US$27,450.

Why should I give?  By giving, you are helping these young passionate theatre artists an avenue to share their talent with the Cebu community. You also are helping bring in fully licensed musical productions that will be enjoyed by the Cebuano audience. It is not often that Cebuanos get to enjoy top calibre productions performed by young adults, so this will help promote the development of musical theatre in Cebu.  If you believe that musical theatre has the power to change lives especially of our youth, then I appeal to you to please give to this cause. Your gift makes it possible for these young thespians to experience the transformative power of theatre. And to donors who are unable to come to Cebu in August to watch this performance, you may also offer your tickets to members from a local youth theatre group who are unable to afford to attend a theatrical performance. 100% of the money raised in this campaign will go to the production. If the campaign raises more than the goal, then those funds will cover other production expenses. If the entire goal is not reached, Young Thespians of Cebu is still committed to mount this production in a smaller scale and will continue to explore ways to make this production a reality.

Putting up a musical production is a very big undertaking, requiring a community to build. We need friends like you to help us make this dream a reality.


I am appealing to friends of theatre, especially those who I have had the privilege of working with (former students, parents, supporters and colleagues) to help this group of young thespians. To my former students in Cebu, on Guam and Hong Kong, I hope you can "pay it forward" by helping them experience how transformative musical theatre has been for you. Do help spread this campaign around. Even if you live far away from Cebu, your help will greatly impact the growth of theatre there and with this project's success, help inspire more musical theatre projects.
