Second Chance Shelter hasn't added a story.
At Second Chance, we believe every dog has a story and every story deserves a happy ending!
Slim is one of these dogs. We don't know his whole story, but when a concerned animal lover called us about him, we knew that he was survivor, but he needed help. Our help and yours too.
The call came in that there was a seeming starving and injured dog laying in the road next to a deceased canine companion, and not wanting to leave his friend to even eat it sounded like.
We went to check out the situation and the caller was sadly correct, an incredibly malnourished dog with injured back legs laying next to the body of what must have been his canine companion. While we couldn't save his friend, maybe we could help this loyal but ill dog.
Going back to the truck to get some snacks and food to try and lure this sweet thing and get him vet treatment and see if he could be saved or at least given comfort if it was the end. Much to our surprise this very sick dog hopped to his front two feet and hopped over to us.
This dog was skinnier than maybe any we had ever seen, and while we driving he was dubbed 'Slim'. Slim made it to the vet and we received great news the next day that he was going to make it, that despite his hind leg injuries, it is likely the injuries happened some time ago as Slim had adopted this curious front leg hopping gait and that doesn't happen over night.
Luckily we have found a great foster home for Slim to get healthy and put some meat on those bones so he doesn't get overwhelmed by all the activity at the shelter.
However, Slim is facing yet another obstacle with his health- he is heartworm postive. This can be treated, but treatment can be costly. His foster is committed to helping Slim get through his treatment, and be as physically healthy as he is in spirit. Slim will be treated by a vet in Anniston where he is being fostered, and the treatment is estimated to be around $350. Will you please help us continue to heal Slim until he is ready to go to his fur-ever home by making a donation today? Every amount, no matter how small counts, and please remember we are a non-profit and any donation is tax-deductible!
