Gone to the Dogs Rescue Inc. hasn't added a story.
Gramps/Super now known as Cooper was rescued from Lancaster Animal Shelter on October 24, 2015. Cooper is a fantastically sweet and happy boy! Cooper found himself in the medical isolation ward at deadly Lancaster Animal Shelter as an owner surrender, he was classified as 15-16yrs old, but there was something else.....he has a horrific and puzzling scarring on his hind quarters combined with a draining wound close to his perineum. What feels like a mass, growth is surrounded by infection and drainage that needs to be debrided, cleaned and treated. Because it looks suspicious, we are also biopsying the tissue and sending for pathology. Cooper's RT leg is affected and he walks gingerly on it but he does walk!
Cooper went to his first vet visit on Monday October 24, 2015 at Family Pet Clinic in Redondo Beach, he saw Dr. Randall and we did blood work and exam, we were puzzled at the shape of his hind quarters and what appears to be puckering and pockets of fluid. Coupled with the mass palpated under his lower abdomen we grew very concerned. We knew we had to get that wound cleaned up right away and investigate it further, we also discovered "Coop" is a little younger than 15, which is excellent for his recoverey. But he also has a heart murmur. We started more antibiotics too!
We were alerted to Cooper's plight by a fine shelter networker who visits the dogs there weekly. And because we rescue based on foster availability, we were lucky to have an amazing foster family step up to volunteer, geriatric/medical needs and all! We knew Cooper would be a challenging case but we had to save him!
Tomorrow, Cooper is scheduled to get Xrays done, wound debridement, biopsy, and while he's under sedation we'll get his teeth as cleaned up as possible so he won't have to endure another anesthesia round. We are asking for your urgent help to get Cooper what he needs, he is a friendly boy, loves meeting new people and new dogs, he also loves toys! Cooper wants nothing more than some good food and good love. He deserves to be as good of health as possible, pain free, and to finally know what is going on in his little body.
Our hearts lie with the underdogs, who have no chance in the high kill shelter system, to us, that is Rescue, defined. Cooper needed us urgently, now we are asking for your help in helping him get the care he deserves and needs, and put his best paw forward on his journey to finding his furever!
Gone to the Dogs Rescue Inc. is an ALL VOLUNTEER foster based rescue group registered as a nonprofit 501(c)3 animal welfare charity based in Redondo Beach, CA. EIN 45-2459450. Since 2011, we've been working our tails off for them, because they matter, and deserve a second chance. Thank you for reading Cooper's story and please help by donating to his needed care! Do. Act. Love.
Cooper will be receiving his care by the wonderful staff at Family Pet Clinic of Redondo Beach! Dr. Randall, Dr. Daffner, and everyone is amazing with pets, we know Cooper will be well taken care of!
