Kate Regehr hasn't added a story.
Frankie is a Cardigan corgi who was re-homed to me when she was 2. She is an active girl who has always loved running, fetching her ball, and hikes in the woods. She is a friend to everyone she meets, and fully a member of my family.
Recently she began showing lameness in her hind legs and over the course of one week, she lost the ability to walk or urinate. After x-rays she was diagnosed with a herniated (or "slipped") disc, which means that a disc in her back was compressing her spinal cord. Sadly this isn't uncommong with short-legged dogs. The options were to keep her from moving at all and hope for an eventual recovery, or undergo surgery to clear out the problem disc and alleviate pressure on the spinal cord. In the meantime, she could only empty her bladder with the help of a veterinarian so she needed to remain in hospital. After consulting with the surgeon, I agreed surgery was the best choice and it was done on October 15.
Within two days of surgery, Frankie could pee on her own and showed slightly more strength in her legs. She is in great spirits, and with massage and gentle physio (from me), shows a little more mobility and strength (and restlessness!) each day.
I work full-time and have taken a second job to help recoup at least some of this cost. The amount I'm hoping to fundraise only reflects the cost of the surgery because that is the major expense, though there are further expenses such as re-check exams and medication. It's left me extra broke and then some, so every cent donated our way would help me recover financially and most importantly, get her the care she needs in the coming weeks and months to return her to peak health. If you are able to donate any amount or share this page, you have my deepest gratitude on behalf of Frankie.
Thank you!
