As an architect and university professor, Mark Poddubiuk has been a community activist for at least 25 years. In Pointe St. Charles, he has been working with various organizations on the reinvention of Batiment 7 in the CN Train yards. Mark and his family moved to the Point  in 2012.

In early 2014, Mark took a leap of faith in opening Salon Laurette (named after the beauty salon which had been there) in a storefront on Centre Street. Salon Laurette has been the project office for Batiment 7 and the venue for several exhibits and group activities. People also come to talk to Mark about architecture, design and development needs in the area. Mark has also become involved with the Centre Street business association.

Early on February 19, someone broke into Salon Laurette by breaking the glass door. They took equipment and sprayed the fire extinguisher over all the surfaces. As much as the material loss and inconvenience, there is personal distress given Mark's investment in Salon Laurette and commitment to the Point. Please show him his work is valued and that this event does not reflect the community at large or its appreciation. Any donations in excess of the loss will be reinvested locally, in the spirt of Salon Laurette.
