Our monthly speaker series brings newsmakers, policymakers, and seasoned political observers together for a behind-the-scenes look at the most pressing issues facing Arkansas.  These lunch lectures raise money for the Arkansas Times Investigative Journalism Project. 100% of the proceeds will support expanding our newsroom, ensuring our capacity to hold leaders accountable and keep Arkansans informed. 

In-person tickets are $100 and include lunch in the private dining room at the Copper Grill.  Seating is limited , so we highly recommend securing your seats sooner rather than later as this series is known to fill up quickly. Lunch is served at 11:30   with food provided by the amazing chefs at Copper Grill. Our guest speaker will begin at 12 pm promptly, followed by a Q&A session If you're unable to attend in person, we have the option to  attend virtually for $50 .  If you have purchased a virtual ticket your Zoom access link will be send to the email address provided at checkout the morning of the event.  Ticket sales end 2 hours before lecture start time.  With any ticket purchase, you are supporting Arkansas Times and our mission to stay your local and independent newsroom. Victor “Vic” Frederick Snyder is a Vietnam veteran, family physician, and lawyer who served as an Arkansas State Senator from 1991 to 1996 and as a U.S. Representative for Arkansas' Second Congressional District from 1997 to 2011.

During his three terms in the state Senate, Snyder was known for his support of conservation issues, his efforts to overturn anti-gay laws in Arkansas, and his challenge to the power of the Arkansas Highway Commission. Snyder first ran for U.S. Congress in 1996. Defeating Republican Bud Cummins by roughly 10,000 votes (out of nearly 220,000 votes cast in the Second District), he joined Marion Berry and Asa Hutchinson as freshmen in Congress, along with Jay Dickey, the only returning congressman from Arkansas in the 105th Congress. Reelected six times, Snyder was in Congress for the second term of President Bill Clinton, both terms of President George W. Bush, and the first half of President Barack Obama’s first term.

In Congress, Snyder has served on the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, the House Armed Services Committee, and the Joint Economic Committee. In 2007, he was elected chair of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations. Snyder was the only member of the Arkansas delegation in the House to vote against the 2003 resolution authorizing the use of military force in Iraq. In 2009, he was also the lone Arkansas congressional delegate to vote in support of climate-change legislation. He defended his willingness to support healthcare legislation in the 111th Congress in various “town hall meetings” in his district in 2009.
