Absa Samba is a 21 year old Gambian woman, who has already made a huge impact in fighting for the rights of Gambian women and girls. She has been given the opportunity to study in the US, but she needs financial support in order to do so. Please help!

Please note that we are unable to issue tax receipts for your donations.

I'm Absa Samba, a young Gambian passionate about the empowerment and promotion of the rights of women and girls. I have been accorded the opportunity to study in the United States as an international student and will soon start classes at the Community College of Vermont, in the Liberal Studies program, with a specialization in Global Studies. However I have constraints covering my tuition and living expenses amounting to $5000 USD ($6500 CAD) and I am hopeful that you can help.

I hold a national reputation as a dedicated young activist, feminist, and youth worker on issues of gender, girls' and women's progression. I served as the Chairperson of Forum for African Women Educationalists - The Gambia Girls' Alumni, where we train young girls on self confidence and breaking the culture of silence. I have participated in series of community sensitization against cultural practices that affects the development of women and girls in the Gambia including Early Marriage and Female Genital Mutilation. My passion for a just and equitable society culminated in my nomination and award from the Forum for African Women Educationists - The Gambia Youth Awardee of the Year 2016 for the my contribution to the promotion of gender equality through girls' education. I was also one of the Youth of the Month of August nominee of the Balance TV show on that runs on the National TV -GRTS- recognizing efforts of deserving young people contributing to their advancement of the Gambia society in many different ways.

I hold a certificate in Gender and Development, but I know that pursuing a higher education will go a long way in helping me advance my knowledge and skills to support the development of my society. Even more so, I'll be an inspiration and an example to many young girls and women who do not and are not exposed to such opportunities. Your support will go a long way in making this dream come true.

Thank you.
