Build a bright future for the Maisha orphans with educational tutoring, tuition, and uniforms, psychosocial development through music and sport therapy, safe infrastructures, and a fund for vocational training and university tuition the future.

Maisha rescues children from the streets and slums in Nairobi, orphaned mainly by HIV/AIDS and the 2007 post election violence, and gives them a safe and loving home, food, and education in a semi-rural village outside Nairobi.

20 children and 5 caregivers live in a small, single family home, while 2 kids supported by Maisha still live with their grandmothers.  Kids and caregivers squeeze together, some sharing single twin beds with 2 others.  A metal-walled homework / dining space has been tacked on to the low quality house.  Three of the kids and one caregiver sleep in a tiny metal shed outside.

The Maisha kids continue to improve in school, most are in the top 30% of their classes (with class sizes up to 85 students), and have dreams to become Kenya's future scientists, engineers, pilots, and surgeons.  With the love and support they get from Mama Maisha and the incredible staff, they all have bright futures ahead.

Current Projects

Maisha desperately seeks support for a new home, with a stable infrastructure, better living conditions, and enough room to comfortably separate the little ones from the young adults.

Educational tutoring 6 days a week will ensure that kids continue to learn during their long school breaks, with special support for those who need more individual attention.

$289 pays for tutoring during the 3 school breaks in a year.

Drumming and singing and acrobatics classes provide a culturally appropriate outlet for emotional healing while promoting self-confidence, discipline, and psychosocial development.

$1.20 pays for 1 hour for 1 child. $4608 pays for weekly classes for all kids for 1 year.

An addition fund for secondary and university tuition and vocational training will help pave the way for bright, sustainable futures.
