DX Pedition to Camiguin Island, Philippines IOTA OC-235

My name is Kouichi Ueno (JI1FGX/DU9), and I live on Mindanao Island (IOTA OC-130) in the Philippines.

I moved from Japan to Mindanao 15 years ago and currently operate on 7, 14, 18, 21, 24, 28, and 50 MHz frequencies.

On September 19, 2024, I became the first in the Philippines to receive the IOTA 100 Award, and I am currently applying for DXCC 150.

I am planning a DX Pedition to Camiguin Island (IOTA OC-235), and if this expedition is realized, it will be the first 50 MHz activation from Camiguin Island.

• For the on-air frequencies, I plan to use a HexBeam antenna, allowing operation on six bands: 14, 18, 21, 24, 28, and 50 MHz.

• Camiguin Island is a small island located to the north of Mindanao in southern Philippines, designated as OC-235 in the IOTA (Islands On The Air) program. Accessing Camiguin from Ozamiz City on Mindanao Island requires about nine hours by land and ferry, making it quite challenging to reach from other major areas. This isolation gives Camiguin great value for IOTA chasers.

  Notably, there has been no amateur radio activity recorded from Camiguin Island on the 50 MHz band. This band has strict propagation constraints, making it difficult for signals to reach distant areas. Establishing 50 MHz activity from Camiguin would provide an exceptionally rare and exciting new opportunity for IOTA chasers around the world.

• This IOTA expedition is planned for April to June, when conditions on the 50 MHz band are favorable.
