This is a series of events, workshops and discussions exploring the lived experience of black muslims and confronting anti-blackness in Muslim identified spaces.
More

My name is Rania El Mugammar and I am a community engaged artist, anti-oppression & equity educator, speaker and facilitator. I have been working in the arts and community development sector in Toronto for a over a decade.

My work focuses largely on my lived experience and the lived experiences of those in my community. I am a Muslimah with roots in Sudan, my experiences as a Black womxn in Muslim spaces has been tremendously troubling, violent and filled with antiblack racism.

As an educator and artist I recognize the importance of creating spaces for conversation, critical thinking and collaborative learning. This project will create a safe space for Black Muslims to explore our experiences with Blackness and Islam, confront our oppressions and heal from our traumas.

The project will have a series of curated discussions, arts/strategy workshops and public engagement events.

I will be volunteering my skills as a speaker, and experienced facilitator to help support these necessary conversations and strategize for safe spaces for Black Muslims.
