Who am I?

My name is Scott Wynn and I am the Veteran Services Coordinator here at Wabash Valley Veterans Services. I served 5 years in the United States Marine Corps from 2001 to 2006; and most recently the Indiana Air National Guard from 2013 till present.  As a veteran, I have seen many lives impacted by the conflicts both past and present; and the effects they have on both the veteran and their loved ones. Over the past few years I have made it my mission to ease that impact on my brothers and sisters, and directed my career path, education, and efforts in doing so. One year ago I was given an opportunity to do just that and so much more with Wabash Valley Veterans Services a program of Reach Services here in Terre Haute, IN.

What do we do here at WVVS?

What we do here is a myriad of services for veterans and their families. Mainly, we work with homeless and at risk veterans here in the Wabash Valley. Our services for veterans include but are not limited to:

  • Emergency Homeless Shelter - (1) 1 bedroom efficiency apartment
  • Low Income housing - (10) 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom, handicap accessible apartments
  • Case management
  • Guidance and assistance with the VA system
  • Assistance with Acquisition of a Service dog for veterans with PTSD/I
  • Information referral
  • Financial Assistance
  • Food and clothing assistance
  • Weekly Peer Support Groups - “Vet to Vet” , “Veteran Only AA”

Why we need your help?

We are a non-for-profit agency; and as such we rely on the generosity of the community to be able to do what we do. Since last year’s Operation Vanguard your generosity was used to aid over 32 homeless veterans and their families; as well as over 98 “At risk” veterans in need.

As amazing as this is, there is still a great need in our community. We want to expand our homeless shelter and program into a full scale “General Quarters” and 12 month program. To do something on this scale requires a lot of effort; not just from the staff here but the community itself.

We are asking that the community removes it’s blinders and does what it can to aid those who once swore an oath to defend each and every one of us. Please give what you can, every penny counts.
