My name is Tina Bodnar, and I am a music teacher at William Walker Elementary School.

As a music teacher, my goal is to help students learn the basics of music and instill a love of music that they can carry into their future.  Music is not just singing or playing the recorder.  Music and technology work fabulously together. Everywhere you look, technology and music are used together, whether it is listening to music on your iPod, recording music on an iPad, or creating music through an app.  Music can be so much more, and I want to provide that for my students, but I can not do that without the appropriate tools.  Traditional purchasing and maintaining individual instruments is cumbersome and expensive.  Today there are so many apps and projects that students can enjoy, engage and learn from that can be taught by integrating technology into our standard music classroom.  While our district has been fortunate enough to receive funding to help with technology in the classrooms, often music is overlooked because we are not a "classroom." As a result, we don't receive the technology funds that a general classroom does.

That is why I would like to purchase a set of 7 Ipads to be used in the music room. The Ipads would provide my students the opportunity to use various apps like Rhythm Cat to help learn and practice their music literacy. Students would be able to compose and create with Garageband and similar apps. Not only would students be learning their music but they will be provided with the opportunity to improve and familiarize themselves with current technology.  The Ipads would also help students who have difficulty with communication or special needs be able to participate in class despite their difficulties. The funds raised to purchase these Ipads would provide all my students with the opportunity to create, enjoy and learn music in the way of the world today.
