Hi! My name is Lindsay Laing, I am one of the 6th grade science teachers at Whitford Middle School. 

We are about to finish our unit on Electricity and Magnetism which requires students to apply what they have learned about electricity and circuits to build a working toy! It's our favorite project of the school year! Their toy must include a parallel circuit that runs a motor, a light and one other element. This project is always a hit as it is challenging, engaging, hands-on application of the science concepts we have learned. 

Unfortunately, costs have increased this year since we will need to provide individual packages of supplies to each student. The money we are asking for will be used to purchase kits that include batteries, battery holders, wires, mini LED lights and DC motors.

Through this project we see our students' creativity come to life as they build unique and personalized toys. They persevere as they work to build a parallel circuit that will power both a motor, light and any other elements they choose to include in their toy. We have seen cars, airplanes, "fire" breathing dragons, carousels, musics boxes, automated spinners as part of a board game and many, many other great handmade toys comes to life while exploring the concepts of electricity.
