Beaverton Education Foundation has already provided $500 in matching contributions. The campaign has now finished.
Westview Unido provides monthly events for our Spanish-speaking
community here at Westview. Our overall goal is to increase
parent engagement for our Latinx families. Studies
show that family knowledge and inclusion in education is closely
tied to student success. We are trying to change the
ongoing statistic of LatinX students not being driven toward
engagement by the school system. We provide informational nights
regarding academic procedures such as grading policy updates, how to
read transcripts, college preparedness, advanced course registration,
and more. We aim to align our information with our comprehensive
school counseling plan to maintain consistency. However, we try and
keep it fun with music, food, and raffles to align with Hispanic
culture. We ended the 2020-21 WHS Unido year by bringing a taco truck
to our parking lot. Our families were able to meet and converse with
our administrative team and build our community even stronger. It was
our most attended event thus yet! With that being said, we are looking
to extend our budget to provide more similar opportunities to continue
growing the Unido family and form a supportive community.
Westview Unido ofrece eventos mensuales para nuestra comunidad
de habla hispana aquí en Westview. Nuestro objetivo general es
aumentar la participación de los padres para nuestras familias
latinx. Los estudios muestran que el conocimiento de la familia y la
inclusión en la educación están estrechamente relacionados con el
éxito de los estudiantes. Estamos tratando de cambiar la
estadística continua de estudiantes LatinX que no están siendo
impulsadoshacia la participación por parte del sistema escolar.
Dicho esto, brindamos noches informativas sobre procedimientos
académicos, como actualizaciones de la política de calificaciones,
cómo leer las transcripciones, preparación para la universidad,
registro de cursos avanzados y más. Nuestro objetivo es alinear
nuestra información con nuestro plan integral de consejería escolar
para mantener la coherencia. Sin embargo, intentamos que sea divertido
con música, comida y rifas para alinearnos con la cultura hispana.
Terminamos el año 2020-21 WHS Unido trayendo un camión de tacos a
nuestro estacionamiento. Nuestras familias pudieron reunirse y
conversar con nuestro equipo administrativo y construir nuestra
comunidad aún más fuerte. El evento terminó fue todo un éxito. Dicho
esto, buscamos ampliar nuestro presupuesto para brindar más
oportunidades similares para seguir haciendo crecer la familia Unido y
formar una comunidad de apoyo.

Founded in 1988, the Beaverton Education Foundation raises money to provide hands-on innovative academic enrichment and advancement programs & projects that go beyond normal school funding at all Beaverton public schools and is a 501(c)(3) community-based nonprofit organization. BEF mobilizes community resources to fund innovative classroom projects, summer and after-school programs.
