South Mountain W.O.R.K.S. Coalition (SMWORKS), Working to build Opportunities, Resources, Knowledge, and Skills, is a community-led coalition serving South Mountain, Phoenix. Founded in 2008, we work alongside young people, families, and trusted community leaders to reduce substance-related harm and strengthen community wellbeing.

Our work is grounded in harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and prevention. We focus on both individual support and systems-level change through:

• Community-led prevention strategies rooted in lived experience

• Trauma-informed prevention education and skill-building

• Young leader development and leadership opportunities

• Trusted, community-based communication and outreach

• Strong partnerships with schools, faith leaders, and local organizations

• Community-led media, policy, and environmental strategies that reduce access and harm of substances

Community-led prevention works, but it requires sustained resources.
