Gaming can be an outlet. It can be an escape from reality. It can give a sense of relief or a feeling of ease. It can even be therapeutic. And while playing games can’t repair physical conditions, gaming can offer mental healing to those suffering.
Children navigating through childhood cancer experience some of the most burdensome physical and mental pain, and that struggle extends easily to their friends and family. Though these children cannot be physically healed by gaming, you can help them and their families by picking up a game.
Why are we gaming for Josh?
Childhood cancer isolates kids. West Coast Kids Cancer Foundation offers year-round, virtual programs to connect kids with cancer so they know they aren't alone. You can help kids with cancer by Gaming for Josh. Josh was diagnosed with cancer when he was almost 11 years old. Like other kids his age, he connected with his friends by hopping on his Xbox and slipping into a world far from reality. In the last months of his life, Josh found moments of laughter, connection, and a "normal" teenage life while playing his favourite video games with his friends. You can help kids with cancer by Gaming for Josh! We are calling on you and all gamers to play a video game and help kids with cancer in B.C. know they aren't alone. |

Where do the proceeds go?
All proceeds go to West Coast Kids Cancer Foundation in support of programs like WCK Hangouts. Hangouts offer a safe virtual space where kids can explore their favourite activities and connect with their peers while engaging with our trusted volunteers. These sessions are built on the interests of the participants (like video games, art, dance, etc.) and are facilitated to reduce isolation and enhance positive mental health for kids and siblings of kids experiencing childhood cancer. |
