On a flight home in 2009 Sid Landolt and Pete Dupuis, business partners and innovators in the luxury real estate industry, met Blake MyCoskie the founder of TOMS Shoes. In this chance meeting, Blake explained his ‘one-for-one’ gifting model—every time someone buys a pair of TOMS shoes the company gifts a pair to a shoeless child. Blake further explained how this had helped millions of people, but had also transformed his company culture.
With a newly inspired passion for social change, and their expertise in the industry, S&P supported the development of a philanthropic model for real estate, whereby realtors and developers can sell homes to build homes for families living in slums. In 2013 World Housing, a registered charity in Canada and the USA was officially formed. Since then 580 homes have been built, changing the lives of over 2860 people in 5 countries.
With the vision of 'A home for everyone’ and a mission to house 10,000 people by 2020, World Housing supported by S&P and other Founders, continues to grow and build homes in the worst slums of Cambodia, Philippines, Mexico, Colombia, Haiti and El Salvador. World Housing invites the real estate industry to collaborate and join the movement to help fund housing for families in need. It doesn't take a lot from each person to help transform the lives of 1.2 billion people living in uninhabitable dwellings across the globe.

Without a home, basic life needs are unmet. Homelessness is a systematic problem that causes other problems including disease, violence and lost income opportunities.
When a family receives a safe home, everything changes. A secure home, first and foremost, provides safety from life-threatening dangers like storms, intruders, diseases and other factors of an opportunistic environment. Safety and security have far-reaching implications that positively influence the long-term foundations that children thrive on:

This is a snapshot of what life is like for families in El Salvador.

- 33% of families live below the international poverty line of $1.70 USD per day
When families move into a community, basic needs are now met enabling families to move out of survival mode and begin the journey toward helping themselves propel out of poverty.
Located 96 km west of El Salvador's Capital lies the small community of Achuchapán . Achuchapán has a municipal population of approximately 38,000 people.

World Housing works with local building partners who have in-depth knowledge of the community and years of proven impact in the region. In El Salvador, World Housing is proud to partner with New Story, voted one of the most innovative charities by Forbes Magazine.
Following the success of the first project here; the local government has agreed to provide electricity, paved roads, clean water and more, furthering our impact on this community.
