Remember how much energy you had as a kid? Remember how much fun it was to run and flip and tumble?

Kids are full of energy! Having a place to explore, process and harness their energy is an essential part of learning. For kids impacted by Autism, physical energy and sensory experience can be a bit challenging. When combined with the social demands of typical gymnastics studios, accessing these spaces can be next to impossible!

The students in the Structured Routine Center (SRC) are amazing students who live, work and play in Beaverton schools and thrive with opportunities to take part in all the richness their community has to offer. The students in our program are impacted by a variety of disabilities, and need specially designed instruction to access instruction in motor skills and social emotional skills. When planning trips, we need to be extra mindful to keep these needs at the forefront of our planning. Thankfully, we have a gymnastics studio in our area that is designed JUST FOR THAT! Spectra Gymnastics provides instruction, trained staff and equipment that suits our individual needs perfectly. 

One hour of complete studio time for our 30 students is $250 + transportation costs of $250. With the dollar-for-dollar match from BEF, that's just $8/student!

This will allow all three SRC classes to rotate through stations in the gymnastics studio with Spectra staff trained in gymnastics as well as the social thinking curriculum which teaches social emotional learning skills for individuals with disabilities. The activities will work on social skills, gross motor skills, as well as sensory processing—particularly with proprioceptive and vestibular inputs. The kids will get to practice climbing up and over surfaces, through tunnels, and across balance surfaces. They will get to learn routines across different trampolines and will get to cool down with some varieties of sensory swings in the facility.

Our students deserve to have those joyous, fun-filled, energetic field trip memories that their peers do! They love getting to express their excitement in structured, supported and adventurous ways! By donating to this project, you can help enable that experience. Your contribution would go towards the cost of the field trip for students and support staff as well as transportation to get there.
