THE SITUATION
Rowing Canada Aviron is targeting 5+ podium performances at the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Government funding alone is insufficient to achieve podium performances in the current quadrennial and beyond.
RCA supports 60 senior team athletes with world-class coaching and equipment, an integrated support team, an enhanced daily training environment, strategic training camps; and a program of international competition.
From the early 2000s, RCA has benefited from a corporate partnership that supported a Grocery Card Program for National Team athletes. This enabled RCA to invest around $300k in a comprehensive Nutritional Support Program for the 60 athletes training within National Training Centre in Victoria, BC. As a result of the loss of this corporate partner, RCA can no longer sustain the funding for this program.
FUELLING OUR ATHLETES
Athletes in full time training consume approximately 6,000 to 10,000 calories per day (the same amount as a typical family of four). Purchasing sufficient food to support 8,000 calories/day costs approximately of $948 per month or $11,376 per year.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Working in close partnership with the Senior Athletes, we are looking to raise funds to supplement the immediate needs of the athletes based in the National Training Centre. Your support will enable us to fund our food program while we continue the search for a corporate partner to support this program for the longer term.
No contribution is too small, it all helps. All donations to Rowing Canada Aviron will be eligible for a Tax Receipt.
