Frances Quitlong and Justin Mendes hasn't added a story.
Good day!
Frances and Justin here, we come from Francis Libermann Catholic High School in Scarborough. Life is so fast-paced but there should never be a moment where we are not grateful for the life we have and those within it! Unfortunately, not everyone has such privileges...
For this reason I decided to take action upon this matter for my birthday March 22, 2018, gathering the necessary help needed to make it work. My birthday wish was to give back to the community first-hand, where many people of the Greater Toronto Area could be found living in dangerous and poor conditions.
I found that March Break was the perfect time to carry out this plan.
We managed to put together 20 care packages, and several blankets, pillows and donated clothes to Good Shepherd.
Alongside this, we plan to raise awareness against the stigma of homeless people as well as the prevalence of this issue on a local and global level.
For 2019, our goal is $500**! We set up entertaining challenges (see below), poster and announcements to promote this campaign! *UPDATE, as of January 23, 2019 amazing progress guys: our new goal is $1000 **UPDATE, as of February 29, 2019 NEW goal: $1250!
30% of the funds will go directly to Good Shepherd for them to continue funding their programs. The 70% will go towards the day in which we will distribute care packages to the homeless we encounter.
In each care package we plan to have: (all approximate values - we will find the best deals for more to package!)
ITEM LIST:
- Deodorant - $1.50 - 2.00
- Toothbrushes - $1.50/2 pack
- Toothpaste - $1.00
- Floss - $1.25
- Shampoo - $1.00
- Soap - $3.50/4 pack
- Lotion - $3.75 for 354mL (dispersed into travel bottles: $2.50/4 pack)
- Gloves - $1.50/2 pair
- Underwear
- MEN: George $13.97/6 pack
- WOMEN: Fruit of the Loom $12.97/6 pack
-
Socks - $22.70/6 pack
- Blanket: $5.00/each (these will be at a lower volume due to their space and price)
- Pillows: $7.00/each
-
A kind message from anyone who would
like to say something in a note!
- Directions and maps to places where they can get help - many different shelters!
= approximately before taxes $25.00/each package = $820 (donations will help lower cost) + cost of blankets and pillows
FOOD: The values might increase!
- Sandwiches
- Iceberg Lettuce head - $1.69/head
- Cold cuts - $5/16 slices
- Mayo - covered
- Cheese - covered
- Bread - $1.70/675g loaf
- Water - $3.50/case of 24
= about $20 with tax
To get all of these wonderful things available for the homeless, we really need your help! Donations of any kind, of price, will be extremely helpful, as well as spreading the word and social promotion! Even just a $1 donation could purchase one item on the list and be of paramount importance in the hands of those who need it. Also note that a $20 donation will cover A WHOLE CARE PACKAGE!
We ask kindly for your help in support in anyway to make the lives of many homeless better as well as my 18th birthday a memorable effort, but most importantly join the journey to vicariously experience first-hand giving by the impact of your donations or promotion! Truly anything helps! We hope to bring happiness and smiles this March Break, and we can't entirely pull it off without your help! Thanks a million for everything.
