Nowruz's Rescuer says:
On the morning of March 7, 2018, our team and ten Australian
Guardian Angels (GA) were on a mission in downtown Kabul.
While we were entering the compound we saw a stray puppy
roaming the streets. We watched the little girl for a bit before we
noticed a local man kick the pup.
One of the Australian GA’s immediately jumped out of our
convoy, scooped her up, and brought her back to the vehicle.
After completing our mission, we left the compound with a new
fuzzy mascot in tow. Our group smuggled our new found friend up to
the second floor of the Australian NSC (National Support Element),
by which time the Aussies had named our pal Digger after an
Australian military ranking.
It was decided that Digger would surely be a perfect mascot
for the Australian NSC. Knowing she was in good hands, I left for a
while and returned back a few hours later to find the happy pup
surrounded by 20 equally happy members of the NSC. Eventually,
comforted by the old Christmas stocking she was tucked into, Digger
fell asleep right on the belly of an Angel. Later that day, I
returned to find Digger gone. Of course I asked where she went and
was told she was taken to the US Embassy after which she’d
eventually be moved again for necessary vaccinations. It was
explained that once she was treated, she’d be sent to NOWZAD for
adoption. Not willing to take the risk -- and not having checked
with my wife at home—I immediately blurted out: “Okay, how do I
adopt her?” She connected me to the vet which in turn gave me a
report of her physical status. At this point I learned that poor
Digger was in fact a girl pup, who was suffering from dehydration
and had a tummy ache. But was assured that with the right medical
attention she would be fine.
She’s already doing much better and coming out of her shell.
After telling the story to my boss, he came up with the perfect Dari
name for her, Nowruz, meaning New Year, New Day, New Life.
I finally had an opportunity to call my wife, Cathy—diving
head first into that dangerous territory all husbands know and fear.
On one hand, I knew that surely she’d react favorably but on the
other hand, I really might just be in the dog house for obligating
us to yet another puppy so soon. You see, my family is still
grieving the recent loss of our Golden Retriever, Lucy. Lucy
was—I’ll admit—the love of my wife’s life, and losing her was a blow
to all of us from which Cathy won’t soon heal.
Quickly reassured that I’d made the right call, Cathy
immediately said, “Bring her home; she was sent to us by our Lucy.”
I currently have a once a week visitation schedule with little
Nowruz, where her caregivers will bring her to RSHQ’s distilled
garden. I’ve been informed that she won’t be allowed to enter into
the US until she’s reached six months of age. She is now happy and
spry and looking forward to her trip to the US where she’ll be so
loved by my wife, daughter and myself.
Here’s where we need your help. I’ve been told that this trip
to the US and her medical care could cost upwards of $4,500. Please
take this chance to contribute even a small amount to NOWZAD
organization in helping Nowruz make it to her forever home. We
appreciate anything you can give in support of this rescue.
Thank you!
