Nowzad hasn't added a story.
Maxine's story:
Maxine has been a sweetheart since day one.
I originally saw Maxine outside the dining facility in March
and a coworker, knowing I was the “crazy cat lady”, pointed her out
to me.
She was still a kitten and I realized she was new to
Camp RS and did not have the notched ears, which are indicative of
them having been spayed/neutered and vaccinated.
Someone on
camp must have been looking after her because she let me pick her up
and carry her to the facility where we house cats before they make
their trip to the veterinary clinic.
Some of the cats who need to go in for their initial or annual
boosters can be pretty combative, but Maxine was an angel.
Maxine only spent a few months on RS, but during her short
time, she became a popular little kitty.
She was very friendly
and became a regular at the coffee shop, the chapel, and a couple
offices.
A couple of Max’s human friends said she loved to
snuggle up in their arms and on their shoulders.
Max also
loved tuna and was notorious for taking your seat when you got up.
In May, we received word that she was limping, so we sent her
to Nowzad to see what was wrong with her back leg.
Unfortunately, we found out she had a broken hip and that she
ultimately needed surgery to repair her hip. With the nature of the
injury, Max may not have the mobility she once had, and it could be
dangerous for her to live on the streets of Camp RS.
Therefore, adoption and a life indoors is the best option for Max.
Max had surgery on June 21st and it will take up to 8-12 weeks for her to recover. She won’t be able to travel until then, but this gives us time to raise money for her journey to her furever home.

If, for whatever reason, the companion animal rescue is not
successful (such as disease or injury) then at the discretion of
Nowzad Dogs, the funds collected via this Youcaring page will be
allocated to support the vital daily operational costs of the Nowzad
Dogs small animal clinic and shelter in Kabul.
The total required for a companion animal to travel to North
America is on average $4000 for a dog and $2500 for a cat (we make
no profit and everything is subject to currency valuations and fuel
prices on the day). We are sadly unable to offer refunds on donations.
