Hi! My name is Kaitlyn and I am the founder and owner of New Heights Basketball Academy. I began New Heights in 2014 with the mission of not only helping players develop to their potential on the basketball court, but equally important is empowering all our athletes to become strong leaders in the classroom, with their friends, in our community and through all aspect of life. Our programs address all challenges that many young girls face; including mental illness, friendships, relationships, peer pressure, bullying, and provide a welcoming and encouraging environment to asset our athletes to be the best people that they can be.
We've teamed up with Sole Girls to create something special for the girls in our programs. We want to show the girls that the world is an amazing place where anything is possible, and they have the ability to make a difference a be a leader.
We're planning on taking 15 girls and 15 women to Costa Rica, on our
very first Sole x New Heights Adventure. We will work to reform a
school, connect with kids and community, do workshops, yoga, fun
physical activity and much more while in Costa Rica! Prior to the trip
the girls will go through several life skill workshops and fundraising
activities to help get them ready for this adventure. This will be the
chance of a lifetime for some girls and we are confident that it will
change their lives.
In order to make this dream come true, I need your help. Please
consider supporting me so I can donate more to the school and project
and help give young women the confidence and tools to realize that
they are difference makers and have the power to make positive change
in their lives and the lives of others. I will be purchasing sports
equipment, t-shirts and more to bring down to San Jose to leave at the
school for the girls. We will be bringing basketballs, pumps, jump
ropes and more.
Sole Girls and New Heights is going on an Adventure to Costa Rica.
We will be working with Glasswing International, where we will revitalize a local school in an underserved neighborhood from start to finish.
Glasswing's philosophy is to improve on existing infrastructures in schools, hospitals and community centers, rather than building new ones. Their concept is simple: foster change by investing in a community’s existing strengths and resources – its infrastructure and its people.
We will work alongside local community members and students to paint the walls, garden, provide new learning materials, paint murals and help with basic renovations that will transform the school into a better learning environment for the students to learn and grow.
