Haciendo Acciones Socio-Ecológicas Resilientes
Taking Action for Socio-Ecological Resiliency
Help us create and support a Network of Actions that work for equity and quality of life in Puerto Rico
The problem
When Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico in September 2017, HASER was in its second year of existence. In this chaotic and life-threatening experience, numerous donors sought to help Puerto Rico by investing in grassroots efforts, but were limited to supporting organizations with federal tax exemptions. HASER received multiple requests for fiscal sponsorship from both donors and community groups and organizations engaged in critical recovery efforts.
Puerto Rico is facing an unprecedented crisis as a result of natural and political disasters that have amplified social inequality, magnified poverty, and limited access to essential life services like health, food, housing, and education. More communities on the island are becoming the driving force for change, creating and implementing innovative actions to address unmet social needs. This work is carried out with few resources, creating more barriers in communities that already suffer the effects of the crisis and historical inequity.
The solution
Through our Network of Actions program, we create alliances with community-based organizations to implement projects that advance our shared mission of social well-being, ecological sustainability, and equity and quality of life for all.
HASER has built a Shared Resources Network to support a diversity of projects throughout the archipelago of Puerto Rico. Our shared resources include: administrative staff, accounting, bookkeeping, project co-management, insurance, a centralized website, compliance documentation, training workshops, banking costs, postal services, shared office space, office supplies and equipment, logistical support for project infrastructure, and programming.
This support means that projects can rely on a centralized infrastructure and dedicate more time in their day-to-day work to their direct impact on local communities.
HASER is the first organization based in Puerto Rico to use fiscal sponsorship to support movement building through shared infrastructure, strategy, capacities, and value-alignment
How you can help
HASER has seven alliances with community groups from different parts of the Puerto Rico archipelago. We need your help to pay for:
- The insurance policies of the facilities and activities carried out by our alliances
- The internet service and communications of our alliances
- The cost of legal services, accounting and consulting resources that help our alliances
Insurance Policies of Four Properties - $20 | Internet Service and Communications - $30 | Grant Writing for HASER and Alliances - $60 |
