Caroline McCarley is running for re-election as Mayor of Rochester.
“The last two years have been exciting and challenging. We have seen
the Ridge open and flourish, new businesses downtown, and the
completion of the City Hall Annex. There is an energy and vibrancy
across the city, with individuals and groups offering their skills and
enthusiasm to improve our downtown and expand our arts and
cultural vitality. Knowing that there is still much to be done, I
want to spend the next two years focusing that energy in all the
right places. We must continue our work to support our citizens
suffering from addiction. We must make sure that the state honors
its promise to fully fund renovation of the Creteau Technology
Center renovation, so that our students have the skills to
successfully enter the workforce. We have more we can do to expand
our industrial base and secure greater job opportunities for our
citizens. Rochester is an amazing community but there is always more
to be done. I look forward to continuing the work for the next two
years.”
McCarley, age 65, served as Chair of the Rochester School
Board from 1989 to 2000, represented Rochester in the New Hampshire
State Senate from 1996-2000, and served an additional six years on
the School Board from 2008 to 2014. “During my service in the New
Hampshire State Senate I helped bring significant tax relief to
Rochester through the law to adequately fund education. Rochester’s
tax rate fell by $10 per thousand in the year following passage of
the legislation. Today we can’t expect any significant increases in
State funding. We must redouble our efforts to make sure that every
local tax dollar is spent wisely.”
“I believe elected officials work best when they work
together for the common good. That’s the type of Mayor I have tried
to be and will continue to reach out to all of our citizens to make
Rochester the best place to live in NH. We can only make that happen
by listening to one another.”
McCarley is a Publisher for John Wiley & Sons, managing
scholarly and professional journals in business, finance, economics,
and related fields. She lives at 15 Nature Lane with her husband of
43 years, Dan Harkinson. They have three adult sons.
