The work to bring democracy and justice to Nicaragua by human rights defenders is more vital now than ever. Many have been persecuted and forced into exile in Costa Rica and are struggling to survive, especially with the COVID19 pandemic.

Our goal is to support exiled Nicaraguan human rights defenders with $25 per week per person ($100 a full month) for 3 months to provide: food, hygiene supplies, and protection during this global pandemic.

These human rights defenders are among the over 100,000 Nicaraguans that have been forced to flee the country.  The more money you help us raise, the more people we can support!

Why now?  With the Covid-19 pandemic, their already precarious situation is even more dire:

  • Fewer opportunities for informal work and income generation than before.
  • No family support system or safety net in Costa Rica.
  • They can't return to Nicaragua: the regime has stepped up their vigilance to catch and detain returnees. Costa Rica has also closed the borders making traveling more difficult.

Who the money goes to? While there are hundreds of Nicaraguan human rights defenders exiled in Costa Rica, that actively participate in the Costa Rican chapter of La Articulación, this campaign will benefit those who are currently in most dire conditions.
