PROJECT NAME: USS Anchorage (LSD 36) / LSDs 1-52 Monument
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: We are seeking to create a monument honoring USS Anchorage (LSD 36) and all 48 LSDs. This monument will be placed in Tuna Harbor Park, adjacent to the USS Midway Museum along San Diego’s waterfront. Crafted from black granite with striking blue and gray granite accents, it will rest upon a concrete foundation. While the precise dimensions and design are still under development, one section of the monument will be devoted to USS Anchorage, featuring key statistics and a concise historical narrative detailing its significance.
In another segment, visitors will find a detailed listing of all LSDs, categorized by their respective classes (e.g., Anchorage, Whidbey Island, Harpers Ferry, etc.), alongside a description of the LSD mission and a heartfelt tribute to all who served aboard these vessels. ANTICIPATED COST: $12,000.00 - $15,000.00
NOTE: I strive to support U.S. jobs and veteran-owned businesses wherever feasible, and I hope to raise additional funds to facilitate domestic fabrication. The granite source has yet to be determined.

OPENING CEREMONY SCHEDULED FOR: Date of commissioning on March 15, launch date on May 5, date of sinking on July 17, or date of decommissioning on October 1 - Year to Be Determined
BACKGROUND: Each January, the Port of San Diego conducts an annual review of external requests from sponsors wishing to temporarily showcase artwork or artifacts on Port property, or donate artworks or items to the Port of San Diego.
