Hello everyone!
Thank you so much for taking the time to read about our Coyote Cooking Club! I wanted to start this free after school club to give students in our Title 1 school an opportunity to experience and build onto their love of food and cooking. The club will help build life skills to be independent and healthy, while furthering students' understanding of fractions (a challenging concept for our 4th and 5th graders).
Every year, I ask my students, "If you could add one class to the school day, what would it be and why?"
One of the top answers is always cooking! Many of the students and families in our community struggle to cook and provide healthy meal and snack options due to financial burdens, work schedules and time. Coyote Cooking Club will give students the tools to build their own healthy snacks and help with cooking meals at home. Our dream is for club members to become involved in the process of cooking at home and create increased opportunities for family time around preparing and eating meals. We will also focus on showing respect and being open-minded to foods that are important to all members of our community. Our motto is: try everything once, and if it's not for you, that's ok too!
Your donation will buy sustainable supplies to allow our students to experience free cooking classes that encourage kitchen safety, healthy meal options, exploring their identity as a chef, respecting the cultural diversity of food and using fractions to cook! The impact of your donation will be felt across our community through the knowledge and experience students will gain. Their independence, and the connections they will build with their families, have immeasurable value for the rest of their lives.
We are so excited to share our cooking creations with you and will be updating regularly with pictures and recipes that we have explored together.

Founded in 1988, the Beaverton Education Foundation raises money to provide hands-on innovative academic enrichment and advancement programs & projects that go beyond normal school funding at all Beaverton public schools and is a 501(c)(3) community-based nonprofit organization. BEF mobilizes community resources to fund innovative classroom projects, summer and after-school programs.
