Diana Tabor Anderson hasn't added a story.
This year has been particularly rough on our already struggling family. It is a very long story of hills and valleys that we will try to elaborate upon later. This is the shorter version:
As the job of 19 years that had basically upheld our family ended, illness struck the entire household. With no medical insurance, everyone simply rested 3 days and healed on their own. However, Jay didn't seem to be getting better and after months of being sick, finally went to the ER. Surprised he was able to walk in on his own, they quickly diagnosed him with heart problems and admitted him for additional testing. Emergency open heart surgery ensued and they found they needed to perform 5 bypasses (with NO insurance). Besides this, we had our youngest son in college at Liberty University and financial aid does not cover even 3/4 of his tuition and expenses.
There were many reasons for the financial struggle before this, which had already exhausted our 401K and pensions just to survive along with the college student we had taken in to live with us because of their family problems. We were forced to see if we could get assistance from programs that were meant to help people in our situation, but quickly found that we fall into a "catch-22" scenario wherever we turned. It seems these programs are meant for people to be homeless and destitute in order to help. Even the administrators I spoke with complained of the same. We only needed temporary assistance until we could get back on our feet, but NONE would or could help us. We fall between the cracks!
Anyone who knows me or my family is already aware of how difficult it is for us to ask for help, especially financial assistance. We prefer to be the ones to give and help others. Besides monetary gifts, donations of vehicles, furniture, and other items, or volunteering our time/services to ministries, organizations, families, and individuals, we have freely opened our home to friends, family, and even strangers on various occasions. We have never been rich or even "well off", but always believed in sacrificial giving because we were "blessed to be a blessing", even when or if we didn't really have much. It was never with the thought of getting anything in return. Honestly, receiving is extremely uncomfortable and feels totally foreign to us. I don't know, but maybe that's one reason WHY we have been placed in circumstances that force us to ask for help and graciously receive whatever is offered. My sister-in-law, Wendy, helped reveal this to me as she has been bearing this burden alongside me. Her entire family has been leading the way in trying to keep us afloat, but the load has proven to be too much for us and them.
Therefore, in order to help pay Jaylon's current school balance (so he is able to register for next semester by the deadline), catch up on expenses and bills, and help with Jay's medical, we are reaching out to anyone who is willing to help. Anything is appreciated and even a couple dollars adds up when many come together. I've always been on the other end of this and thought my meager $5 or so was insignificant, but now I understand how even that can be a blessing. Plus, as our gift of appreciation (and to promote Dominic, our eldest son's new business venture), we would like to give you a special offer. For any donation of $20-$99, you will receive a $10 credit towards any item and for a donation of $100 or more, you will receive a customized lighted lithograph box with 4 custom picture sides (please go to www.nerdlegion.net for additional information). We are also putting together a contest as an incentive for those that give (details to follow soon) which will automatically double for the first 25 givers.
Our story will be updated as it continues to evolve. Right now we are just pressed for time to get the word out as the bill collectors are NOT patient. Thank you in advance and may God bless you, whether you give or pray or make others aware of our plight.
